Common Areas Of Treatments
Key Modalities of TCM include
Acupuncture:
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points along the body’s meridians, or energy channels, to regulate Qi (vital energy) flow and restore balance. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions, from pain management and digestive disorders to emotional well-being and fertility issues.
Tui Na Massage:
Tui Na is a therapeutic form of Chinese massage that involves manipulation and acupressure techniques to stimulate Qi flow and restore balance. It is used to treat musculoskeletal conditions, promote relaxation, and support overall health.
Moxibustion:
Moxibustion involves the burning of mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near acupuncture points to warm and invigorate Qi, promoting circulation and alleviating cold and damp conditions. It is commonly used to complement acupuncture treatments, particularly for conditions related to pain and digestive health.
Chinese Herbal Medicine:
Chinese herbal medicine utilises natural substances such as herbs, roots, minerals to restore balance and support the body’s innate healing abilities. Herbal formulas are customised to address individual health concerns and are often prescribed in conjunction with acupuncture treatments.
Gua Sha and Cupping:
Gua sha involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged instrument to improve circulation, release muscle tension, and stimulate the immune system. Cupping uses suction to draw stagnant blood and Qi to the surface, promoting healing and relieving pain.
In addition to these therapies, TCM encompasses dietary therapy, lifestyle recommendations, and mind-body practices such as Qi Gong and Tai Chi, which play integral roles in maintaining health and preventing illness.
My approach is personalised to your health needs, focusing on identifying and treating the root causes of your concerns while supporting the body’s natural healing processes. About Dr. Lenise Appleyard
Master of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Bachelor of Health Science in Acupuncture
Diploma of TiuNa (Chinese medical massage)
Growing up as the child of a nurse who believed in nature’s healing power, I was surrounded by natural remedies from an early age. Our garden was a treasure trove of simple, effective solutions: lavender under the pillow for calm and sleep, potato, and onion slices to draw out bruises, garlic slices for ear infections and vibrant nasturtiums adding colour, nutrients, and flavour to our salads. These childhood memories are not just cherished but are principles I still share with my patients today.

My journey into Chinese Medicine was sparked by these early influences and my own health challenges. The profound impact of this ancient practice, with its myriad modalities such as Acupuncture, Moxibustion, Cupping, Gua Sha, Tui Na, and my personal favourite, Herbal Medicine, has shaped my career.
With over 25 years of clinical experience, I have had the honour of learning from many esteemed teachers. Among the most significant was my study of Classical Chinese Medicine under the lineage of Dr. Hu Xi Shu with Dr. Suzanne Rubidoux in China. This deepened my understanding and mastery of Traditional Chinese Medicine, enriching my practice and enabling me to guide countless individuals towards better health.
Today, I continue to practice this holistic and integrative approach to wellness at my clinic in Sydney, where I help my patients achieve optimal health through the wisdom of Chinese Medicine.
